SUMMARY:The Danger Posed by Flock Surveillance Cameras and What We Can Do About It (Zoom meeting)
DESCRIPTION:The Flock license plate readers\, in use in Morton Grove and the surrounding area\, offer public safety benefits in helping police find vehicles suspected of being involved in crimes\, stolen cars\, abductions\, and missing persons. However\, the technology raises concerns regarding intentional and unintentional abuse in the way the data that it obtains can potentially be shared\, including instances elsewhere where it has been made available to ICE. Citing these concerns\, dozens of communities have terminated Flock contracts. In this Zoom\, we’ll learn about how Flock operates\, what makes this particular system susceptible to misuse\, and what remedial options we have going forward. Our presenter will be Christopher Whitaker\, executive director of the Alliance of Civic Technologists. There will be time for Q&A.Registration is required to receive the Zoom link. REGISTER HERE. \n\n\n\nSee the Flock camera map here. \n\n\n\nThis event is sponsored by Vision Morton Grove with co-sponsors Niles United and Sanctuary Niles Township.

Based on their response\, we have work to do and we need your help. \n\n\n\nWe’ll discuss all the work the VMG leadership team and EDI action teams have done to date for our campaign to have the Village of Morton Grove form a commission and develop and implement EDI plans for all aspects of life in the Village. \n\n\n\nOur guest speaker will be Naushina Rahman who graduated from Niles West and lived in Morton Grove. She’s been a teacher for over 30 years and has been involved with equity work most of her life. In order for our campaign to be successful\, your involvement will be crucial. Options for this will be presented for discussion\, input and sign-ups. \n\n\n\nThis continues to be our ask of the Village. We call on the Village of Morton Grove to develop and implement equity\, diversity and inclusion (EDI) plans for all aspects of life in the Village that include: \n\n\n\n1) A new commission with a diverse and representative composition specifically charged with creating and monitoring EDI plans. \n\n\n\n2) Trainings in EDI for all Village staff\, officials\, employees\, departments and commission members\, and also be offered to residents and businesses. EDI trainings will provide attendees with the necessary awareness\, skills and knowledge to create a more equitable\, diverse and inclusive community. \n\n\n\n3) Plans for more diversity in recruiting\, hiring and retaining employees in all Village departments and in appointing individuals to commissions. \n\n\n\nWe hope you’ll help make our ask a reality\,
