SUMMARY:Meet the equity candidates for Niles Township High School Dist 219 (Zoom Meeting)
DESCRIPTION:Meet the 4 equity-minded candidates running as a group for the 4 open seats on the Niles Township High School District 219 Board (Niles North\, Niles West & Niles Central) in the April 2023 election. You’ll hear from the candidates\, have a chance to ask questions\, and find out how you can help their campaign. Registration is required for this meeting. Register Here. The candidates are Kennya “Ken” Durr\, Ganae McAlpin-Toney\, Celia Stennett\, and Amber Wood. They joined together when they learned of reductive language and practices forming that aim to take away rights and resources from students of Niles Township District 219. They wholeheartedly refute these tactics. For more information about them\, Go to their Website. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nYou may know that the last few years have seen extreme groups attacking our libraries\, school boards\, and local elections. National hate groups have been organizing with local extremists to run candidates in local elections to roll back progress made regarding EDI (equity\, diversity & inclusion) and to change services\, education\, and government. Examples can be seen in Niles\, Lincolnwood and more.  To combat this and ensure that fair\, representative\, and equity-minded candidates are on the ballot\, we encourage everyone who lives in D219 to support and vote for the 4 equity candidates. The District Map is Here. Join us and invite others to hear from them\, learn more about them\, and find out how you can get involved in their campaign.

SUMMARY:Meet Michael Rabbitt\, candidate for our IL State Rep
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER HERE for our Zoom meeting on Thursday\, May 12th from 7 – 8 pm with Michael Rabbitt\, a candidate for Illinois District 15 State Representative which includes most of Morton Grove. \n\n\n\nWe invited both Democratic candidates who are running in the primary election on June 28th to a candidate forum because we value representational and transparent government and we think it’s important for voters to be informed and engaged. Michael Rabbitt accepted immediately. We contacted Michael Kelly and his campaign many times and only got one response that he/they would get back to us soon to accept or decline and he/they never did. \n\n\n\nWe’re looking forward to hearing from Michael Rabbitt and having time for Q&A. Please share this with others who may be interested. \n\n\n\nBecause turnout in the primary election is expected to be low\, your vote can have a big influence on the results. Small parts of Morton Grove aren’t in this district. You can check the district map here (District 15 is in purple). \n\n\n\nFor information about voter registration and options for voting\, go here. \n\n\n\nHere are links for more information about the two candidates: \n\n\n\nMichael Rabbitt \n\n\n\nMichael Kelly \n\n\n\nWe hope you’ll join us and then vote.

SUMMARY:An important Zoom meeting - EDI campaign update & next steps
DESCRIPTION:Register here for our Zoom meeting on Sunday\, March 27th from 1:00 – 2:30 pm. \n\n\n\nWe’ll share important updates about recent meetings we had with Village officials to discuss what the Village is doing related to EDI (equity\, diversity and inclusion) and what we want. Based on their response\, we have work to do and we need your help. \n\n\n\nWe’ll discuss all the work the VMG leadership team and EDI action teams have done to date for our campaign to have the Village of Morton Grove form a commission and develop and implement EDI plans for all aspects of life in the Village. \n\n\n\nOur guest speaker will be Naushina Rahman who graduated from Niles West and lived in Morton Grove. She’s been a teacher for over 30 years and has been involved with equity work most of her life. She’ll discuss the importance of EDI in our community and ways to mobilize the community to advocate for EDI. \n\n\n\nWe’ll present our plans for next steps in our EDI campaign. In order for our campaign to be successful\, your involvement will be crucial. Options for this will be presented for discussion\, input and sign-ups. \n\n\n\nThis continues to be our ask of the Village. We call on the Village of Morton Grove to develop and implement equity\, diversity and inclusion (EDI) plans for all aspects of life in the Village that include: \n\n\n\n1) A new commission with a diverse and representative composition specifically charged with creating and monitoring EDI plans. \n\n\n\n2) Trainings in EDI for all Village staff\, officials\, employees\, departments and commission members\, and also be offered to residents and businesses. EDI trainings will provide attendees with the necessary awareness\, skills and knowledge to create a more equitable\, diverse and inclusive community. \n\n\n\n3) Plans for more diversity in recruiting\, hiring and retaining employees in all Village departments and in appointing individuals to commissions. \n\n\n\nWe hope you’ll help make our ask a reality\,

SUMMARY:A special Zoom workshop on housing affordability in Morton Grove
DESCRIPTION:On February 6th from 1-2pm\, Vision Morton Grove (VMG) will be teaming up with Joining Forces for Affordable Housing to present a special workshop on housing affordability in Morton Grove and we want you to join us! Housing affordability is an important part of VMG’s campaign for equity\, diversity and inclusion (EDI) plans for Morton Grove. \n\n\n\n Joining Forces for Affordable Housing is a program of Connections for the Homeless. The Joining Forces program has created a coalition of human services\, religious and other organizations\, plus individuals\, all advocating for more affordable housing in Evanston\, Illinois\, and throughout north suburban Cook County.   \n\n\n\nThis workshop will focus on breaking down census data trends to get a snapshot of the current state of housing affordability in Morton Grove. We’ll then explore how current Morton Grove policy such as zoning laws impact affordable housing. Last\, we’ll look at solutions to make housing more affordable\, and ways we all can advocate for real change. \n\n\n\nFollow this link to sign up for the zoom presentation. Reach out to Sue Loellbach at sloellbach@connect2home.org with questions\, comments\, or suggestions. \n\n\n\nWe hope to see you all there for this incredible workshop!

SUMMARY:Vision Morton Grove Zoom meeting - equity\, diversity and inclusion plans needed in Morton Grove.
DESCRIPTION:Please save the date and plan to join us for our next Vision Morton Grove Zoom meeting. This will be an important meeting to kick off our upcoming efforts to call on our Village officials to develop and implement equity\, diversity and inclusion (EDI) plans for Morton Grove. Our work on this campaign will be similar to our previously successful campaign to get the Village to develop and implement a long-term sustainability plan. He’ll share his experiences with similar efforts in Skokie and plans that have been implemented there. There will be ample time for Q&A with him before we discuss actions we can take in Morton Grove as we begin this campaign. \n\n\n\nWe’ll also hear from Morton Grove Library’s Executive Director Pam Leffler and Adult Services Librarian Edmund Balzer about the library’s EDI Committee and the work they’ve started. \n\n\n\nYou can register here for this meeting now or at any time before the meeting begins. Soon after you register\, you’ll receive a confirmation email from Zoom that includes a link you’ll use to join the meeting. You may not receive any reminder emails so please save that email. If you lose it\, you can register again at any time to get another link to join the meeting. \n\n\n\nPlease share this with others who may be interested and also share our website if they want more information about Vision Morton Grove. \n\n\n\nWe hope you’ll join us at the meeting and invite others to join us in this very important work.
